Whole Wheat Pizza Dough

It’s taken me a while but I’ve finally perfected my dough recipe! This recipe makes 2 pizzas but you can halve it easily.

Ingredients

4 cups whole wheat flour

1 tsp sugar

1 pouch of instant or quick-rising yeast (~2.5 tsp)

1 1/2 cups warm water

2 tbsp oil (canola, olive, or anything you have)

Instructions

1. Combine flour, sugar and yeast in a large bowl. Use a whisk to stir together.

2. Add water and oil. Use a spatula or your hands to mix together until dough is formed.

3. Transfer to a floured surface and knead for 5-8 minutes, until dough is no longer sticky. I like to do it for the full 8 minutes. Add flour to surface as needed.

4. Place dough back in bowl and cover with a dish towel. Set aside to rise for one hour.

5. Split dough into two even balls. Place one ball on a circular pizza pan (I love my pans from Canadian Tire that have small holes to make a great crust!). Roll it out to the edges of the pan. Then, curl the edges of the dough to form a crust and stretch out the dough back to the edges. Repeat with the other ball.

6. Bake crusts at 400 for 5 minutes. Dress up your crusts with your pizza ingredients and bake for another 12 minutes. Broil on high for 30 seconds to one minute, until browning on the top.

Bon appetit!
