I absolutely love these burgers – and they’re perfect for the summer heat! They’re always very moist and full of flavour from the spices and salsa. I use salsa to add more vegetables to the meal because there is plenty of protein from the meat that I don’t feel the need for protein in the eggs from a traditional burger recipe.
Ingredients
1lb extra lean ground turkey, raw
1/4-1/2 cup bread crumbs
4-6 tbsp salsa, or more (I prefer the chunky, spicy variety)
fresh parsley and basil, finely chopped (I do about a teaspoon of each) *optional*
~1 tsp BBQ chicken seasoning, or poultry seasoning
salt and pepper
pinch cayenne pepper
Instructions
- Combine the turkey, bread crumbs and salsa in a large bowl. I prefer to use my hands to ensure the meat is broken up and the bread crumbs and salsa is evenly distributed.
- Add in the spices and mix well.
- Grab hunks of the meat mixture and mold into rounded patties.
- Grill or pan-fry. Serve on a fresh whole wheat bun with a salad!
