Homemade Burgers

I absolutely love these burgers – and they’re perfect for the summer heat! They’re always very moist and full of flavour from the spices and salsa. I use salsa to add more vegetables to the meal because there is plenty of protein from the meat that I don’t feel the need for protein in the eggs from a traditional burger recipe.

Ingredients

1lb extra lean ground turkey, raw
1/4-1/2 cup bread crumbs
4-6 tbsp salsa, or more (I prefer the chunky, spicy variety)
fresh parsley and basil, finely chopped (I do about a teaspoon of each) *optional*
~1 tsp BBQ chicken seasoning, or poultry seasoning
salt and pepper
pinch cayenne pepper

Instructions

  1. Combine the turkey, bread crumbs and salsa in a large bowl. I prefer to use my hands to ensure the meat is broken up and the bread crumbs and salsa is evenly distributed.
  2. Add in the spices and mix well.
  3. Grab hunks of the meat mixture and mold into rounded patties.
  4. Grill or pan-fry. Serve on a fresh whole wheat bun with a salad!
